Millions of pensioners missing out on substantial payments
In what is becoming one of the most alarming scandals in the UK for some time it has been revealed that literally millions of pensioners in the country are missing out on payments which they should be receiving. The complex nature of many social security applications has seen a number of pensioners struggle to comprehend what is required and many have walked away leaving their money in government coffers.
This has been an ongoing problem for many years although a number of prominent finance sites and finance figures have exposed the problems of today. In the olden days many of the elderly population in the UK would allow family members or friends to arrange their finances and benefits but increased paperwork, ID requirements and the ever increasing number of details required has put paid to this.
At a time when many pensioners are struggling to cover their energy bills, food and everyday living expenses it is a scandal that literally tens of millions of pounds remain unclaimed and likely to remain this way for the immediate future. Surely now is the time for the authorities to introduce a specific system for those who are housebound or unable to understand the complex application forms currently being used?
